Vinyl Stair Nosing Installation Instructions
For your Proper Floors Luxury Vinyl Stair Nosings
Preparation
-
Acclimate all materials in the area to be installed between the temperatures of 64°F to 77°F (18°C to 25°C) a minimum of 48 hours before, during, and after the installation. Protect flooring from excessive heat/cold during storage. If the product is stored in an environment different from the installation site and the temperature ranges are controlled within the 64°F to 77°F (18°C to 25°C), the offsite acclimation can be considered acceptable.
-
Ensure your subfloor is clean, level, and stable. Maximum allowed height difference is 5mm/0.2" over a distance of 2m/6.6 feet. Check for any peaks or depressions in your subfloor as these will need to be addressed.
Remove any last obstructions such as glue, nails or screws. Do not install your Luxury Vinyl Nosings over soft, rough, uneven surfaces, or floating floors.
Sweep or vacuum your subfloor prior to installation ensuring nothing will interfere with the installation.
Suitable Subfloor: Lightly textured or porous surfaces; well-bonded solid floors; dry, clean well-cured concrete (cured for at least 60 days prior); wood floors with plywood on top. All surfaces must be clean and dust free.
Unsuitable Subfloor: Rough, uneven surfaces including carpet and soft underlay. Rough, heavy textured and/or uneven surfaces may telegraph through the vinyl and distort the finished surface. This product is not suitable in rooms that have damp concrete floors or saunas. Do not install over rubber- based substrates.
Do not install fixed objects on top of the flooring/nosings or fasten trim/molding/transition pieces directly to the floor/nosing.
Wood Subfloors: Must be a minimum of 3/4” CDX Plywood, OSB, or APA approved plywood. All wood subfloors should be flat, structurally sound, and free from deflection (up and down movement).
-
The nosings should only be installed after all the other trades have finished and the job site has been cleared of any/all debris that could damage a finished installation. Proper lighting is essential.
Check your nosings for possible defects prior to the installation. Complaints can only be accepted before installation. Slight variations in colour and structure are designed to enhance natural appearance. Proper Floors® cannot guarantee that any future replacement or additional installation will match the originally installed product.
Stair nosings are suitable for indoor installations only, in a controlled environment (while occupied) within the required temperature range of 55° F to 100°F (12.78°C to 38°C).
Do not install outdoors.
A ¼” (6.35mm) expansion space is necessary. If needed, the ¼” (6.35mm) expansion space can be filled using a silicone or acrylic silicone caulk.
