Flooring VS Radiant Heating Systems

Can Vinyl Flooring be installed over Radiant Heating?

  • WPC Click can also be installed over radiant heat. The heating system needs to be operational and working for one week prior to the install date to reduce any residual moisture. Turn the heat off for 24 hours before, during and 24 hours after installation when installing over radiant heated subfloors. After the installation is complete, or when turning on the radiant heat system from a cold start, the operating temperature may be increased by a maximum of 3 ℃ in a 24-hour period. Make sure the floor temperature does not exceed 29 ℃ (85 ºF).

  • SPC Click can be installed over radiant heated floors (do not turn heat above 29 ºC or 85 ºF). The heating system needs to be operational and working for one week prior to the install date to reduce any residual moisture. Should the Radiant heating system be in use at the time of installation it is necessary to lower the temperature to 65°F (18.3°C) for a minimum of three days prior to the installation date, during the entire installation, and for 24 hours following upon completion of the installation. The temperature can then be gradually increased in 5° increments. Temperature must never exceed 85°F (29°C).

  • ENGINEERED FLOORING - RADIANT HEAT INSTRUCTION GUIDE

As with any flooring installation, care is advised in radiant in-floor heat applications due to the potential for overheating of the in-floor heat system.

It is also very important that the heat be increased gradually to avoid shocking the floor.

For Radiant In-Floor Heat Applications, installation/operation must meet or exceed the following requirements: Prior to installation the heating system should be operated at 60% of maximum output for at least 2 weeks for complete moisture stabilization. About 3 days prior to installation, reduce the heating system to a suitable temperature of about 64°F or 18°C.
About 2 days after installation gradually over a period of 10 days increase the temperature to comfortable operating level.

During the operation of the in-floor heat system, the temperature of the of the floor MUST NOT EXCEED 81°F or 27°C.
Exceeding this temperature will void your floor's warranty.

As with any wood floor, the floor will perform best if humidity is maintained between 35%-55%. Use a humidification system as needed.

If installing in a dry climate area, over radiant heat, or in situations where dry conditions are expected such as high rise buildings, the flooring should be acclimated with the ends of the boxes opened for 2-3 weeks prior to installation to ensure proper acclimation.

HVAC systems should be operating normally throughout the acclimation period, and portions of the flooring should be distributed to acclimate in the actual rooms where each portion will be installed. Slight surface checking (cracking), particularly at the ends of planks, should be expected in installations over radiant heat and does not constitute a product failure.

Never allow the surface temperature of the floor to exceed 82°F or 28°C.

Avoid dramatic temperature changes; always adjust the system gradually in 5°F.

It is recommended that a dedicated quick recovery thermostat be installed to allow the temperature of the radiant heating system to be accurately controlled.
